Match Night news:

Steel City Galacticos Storm To The Sheffield Thursday Night League One Title – Autumn 2009

22 Jan 2010

Thursday 3rd December saw Steel City Galacticos complete a sensational season and win The Sheffield Thursday Night League One title. The runners up spot and final promotion place went to RB Allan & Sons.

Steel City Galacticos made it back to back promotions, after finishing last season as runners up in League Two.  However, this season they gained promotion in style with a near perfect season, which saw them crowned champions by nine clear points. The only points they dropped all season were against Cucking Frap FC.  They finished the season as the division’s highest scorers and with the best defensive record.  They are therefore well deserved winners of what was a dominant season long display.  Led by captain Will Hayes the team have gone from strength to strength over the last two seasons and who would bet against them making it three promotions in a row next season!

In an interesting twist to the season, RB Allan & Sons, who were also newly promoted from League Two, took the final promotion place and finished as runners up.  This is a great achievement by both teams and a first in a Match Night league.  RB Allan & Sons captain Carl Glasby, who had a great season himself finishing fourth in the golden boot table with 23 goals, will feel the team are well equipped to make a big impact in the Championship next season.  Arsealona finished in third for the second season in a row and will no doubt be looking to break into the top two spots next season.

The golden boot went right to the wire, with Steel City Galacticos’ star man Jamie Oxley, capping a great season to win the award with 37 goals.  This was just one goal clear of Arsealona striker Matthew Spencer in second.  It was a great season for both players, whose efforts leave them fourth and fifth respectively on the all time scorer list for this division.

The golden glove made it a clean sweep for Steel City Galacticos as they picked up the trophy with a record of 32 goals conceded – 14 clear of their nearest rival.
