Stella Amigos Win The Sheffield Thursday Night League Two Title – Autumn 2009
22 Jan 2010
Thursday 3rd December saw Stella Amigos crowned Sheffield Thursday Night League Two Champions and gain promotion to League One. The runners up spot and final promotion place went to The Lakes.
Stella Amigos had a shaky start to the season, which saw them lose four of their first five games. However, once new team captain Gary Dixon had taken the reins, the team’s fortunes turned around. They went on an incredible nine match unbeaten run, which saw them win the title by three clear points and storm into League One. Arguably there has never been such a dramatic change in form for a team in Match Night history and they now look well equipped to make a big impact on League One next season.

Stella Amigos - League Two Champions!
The race for the runners up spot was a fascinating contest, which saw three teams finish level on points, with two further teams narrowly behind. Dad’s Army 2 were favourites for the runners up spot going into the last night of the season, but their disappointing 6-1 loss left the door open for The Lakes, who took full advantage with an 11-0 win against Rotherham Boyz. The win secured second spot for them and promotion on goal difference. Led by captain David Bacon, it represents a quick return to the League One football for The Lakes, after relegation last season. Dad’s Army 2, Fubars, Moose Hut Boca Seniors and Re-united all played their part in one of the most amazing seasons to date and all will feel they can break into the top two spots next season.

The golden glove was some consolation for Dad’s Army 2 as they picked up the award with a record of just 37 goals conceded. The team also recorded the biggest win in League Two history with a 15-0 demolition of Rotherham Boyz.
