Match Night news:

The Shadows Win The Sheffield Netball Championship - Spring 2008

14 Apr 2008

Wednesday 9th April saw The Shadows crowned as Sheffield Netball Championship winners and win promotion to the Premiership. They will be joined in the big time next season by runners up Westways!

The Shadows put last seasons’ disappointment of relegation behind them to bounce back in style, winning promotion and the Championship title!  The team, led by Diana Ward, held their nerve in the last game of the season to grab all five points they needed in a 27-19 win over third place Flying Foxes – taking the title by just one clear point ahead of Westways!  It represents the teams first bit of silverware and with such a confident season long display will be looking forward to the challenge of the Premiership once again in the new season!

The Shadows - Champions!

Westways completed a fantastic first season in the league taking the runners up spot and winning promotion to the Premiership.   The team entered the league after the first week of the season, taking over a withdrawing team’s record of played one, lost one.  However, led by captain Alana Dean, the team lost no time in making up ground on their rivals.  They eventually secured the runners up spot some 18 points clear of third place Flying Foxes and just missing out on the title by one point!  The team can be proud of a great first season which included two wins over champions The Shadows, as well as finishing with 374 goals scored in 15 games.  A new Championship record!   The Shadows and Westways were the two stand-out teams in the division, fully deserving promotion to the Premiership.  Both teams will no doubt be hoping to make a big impact in  the Premiership next season!

Westways - Runners Up!

Flying Foxes finished a comfortable third after a good season back in the Championship after relegation last season and will be looking to break into the top two spots next season.  Women With Balls fought hard all season to avoid the drop to League One, which they did by just two points, leaving Creator and Champs in the bottom two.

Congratulations to all teams who took part in what was a great season.  We look forward to another exciting season starting on Wednesday 30th April.
