Flying Foxes Win The Sheffield Netball Championship – Summer 2008

Wednesday 20th August saw Flying Foxes crowned Sheffield Netball Championship winners and gain promotion to the top flight! They will be joined in the big time by runners up The Toyoda Girls.
Flying Foxes put last seasons’ disappointment of finishing third behind them and made no mistakes this season as they won promotion to the Premiership in style with a fantastic title winning season. The team, led by captain Helen Tilley, went into the last night of the season three points behind title rivals The Toyoda Girls. They held their nerve to record a 20-6 victory over Court Out to take the title! It is the second time in the teams’ history they have topped this division, but last time promotion was unfortunately followed the next season by relegation from the Premiership. The team will, however, feel they are now more equipped and experienced to make a big impact in the Premiership in the new season!
Flying Foxes - Premiership Bound!
The Toyoda Girls led by Natalie Bateman pushed Flying Foxes right to the wire, but in the end had to settle for runners up. This is a fantastic achievement by the team who were promoted from League One last season and have now made it back to back promotions! The team do have Premiership experience under their belt with three previous seasons in the top flight, however, all three times the team have struggled. As with Flying Foxes, they will feel they are heading to the Premiership in a stronger position this time round and will be looking forward to the challenge! Creator finished a good season in third which included a victory over champions Flying Foxes and a draw against runners up The Toyoda Girls. Court Out, newly promoted along with The Toyoda Girls last season, completed a great season in the division finishing in fourth. Netbelles completed a good first season in the league in fifth and will be looking to build on that next season. Storm, however, had a tough time in their first season which ended in relegation along with Women With Balls.
