Match Night news:

DLA Divas Win The Sheffield Netball Championship Title – Autumn 2008

18 Feb 2009

Wednesday 4th February say DLA Divas win a closely fought Championship title on the last night of the season and gain promotion to the Premiership. They will be joined in the big time by runners up Court Out.

It was a sensational season, which right up till the last few weeks, saw the top six sides all with a good chance of promotion.  However, it was DLA Divas, led by captain Jennifer Morris, who held their nerve to take the title just four points clear of Court Out in second.  In a nail biting climax to the season, the last night saw the top four teams separated by just five points.  DLA Divas had a “winner takes all” last night decider, with The Others, who were in second just two points behind them.  Both teams knew the winner would be guaranteed the title and Premiership netball next season.  DLA Divas, relegated last season from the Premiership, made no mistake as they ran out 25-13 winners and deserved champions.  They will now feel they are better equipped and experienced to make an impact on the Premiership this time round.

DLA Divas - Championship Winners!

The DLA Divas result meant Court Out knew a victory in their last game of the season would hand them the final promotion place.  Led by captain Paula Whitham-Lakin, the team cruised past Pink Ladies with a 28-16 victory and into the Premiership.  It is the team’s second promotion in three seasons’ and they will no doubt be looking forward to the Premiership challenge next season.  It was bad luck for third place The Shadows and fourth place The Others, who both played their part in one of the most exciting seasons’ in Match Night history.  Both teams will feel they can break into the top two spots next season.

Court Out - Championship Runners Up!

It was a season to remember for DLA Divas, as captain Jennifer Morris, picked up the player of the season award with an amazing record of nine nominations from fourteen games. The Others’ Becky Holmes was second with eight nominations.

Congratulations to all teams who took part in what was a great season.
