The Shadows Win The Sheffield Netball Championship Title – Winter/Spring 2009
14 Jul 2009
Wednesday 8th July saw The Shadows crowned Sheffield Netball Championship winners and gain promotion to the Premiership. The runners up spot and final promotion place went to the Pink Ladies.
In another closely fought and competitive season, it was The Shadows, led by Sarah Wrigley, who came out on top with an impressive season long display. The team, who only missed out on promotion by one point last season, made no mistakes this time round as they powered to the title and into the Premiership by six clear points. It is the second time The Shadows have won the Championship title, the last time was quickly followed by relegation the next season. However, the team will feel they are now heading back to the big time, better and stronger.

The Shadows - Championship Winners!
Pink Ladies who only finished sixth last season, had an amazing season, which saw them grab the runners up spot and win promotion to the Premiership on the final night. The team, only promoted from League One two seasons’ ago, will now be playing Premiership netball for the first time in their history. It was a fantastic achievement by the team, led by captain Laura Taylor. A special mention should go to some great performances by star player Sally Smith, who ended the season with an impressive eight player of the season nominations. Pink Ladies will no doubt be looking forward to the Premiership challenge next season.

Pink Ladies - Premiership Bound!
The player of the season award went to Eckington Red Wing’s star player, Rachel Taylor with an incredible record of ten nominations – not only a new Championship record, but a new all time record! It was some consolation for the team who were relegated to League One along with Women With Balls.

Rachel Taylor - Player of the Season!
Congratulations to all teams who took part in what was a great season.
