Elite Win The Sheffield Netball Premiership Title – Winter/Spring 09/10
18 Aug 2010
Wednesday 26th May saw Elite crowned Sheffield Netball Premiership champions for the second season in a row. Six time winners Dynamix finished in the runners up spot, with Wadsley Jack in third.
Led by captain Katy Burnett, Elite stormed to their second successive Premiership title (and third in total). It was an empathic victory for the team, who eventually took the title by a staggering 13 points clear of their nearest rival, having only lost one game. It was another a great team effort that was responsible for such an impressive title defence. However, a special mention has to go to Becky Maltby who finished the season with an impressive six player of the match nominations. Elite will now be looking to make it three in a row next season and potentially challenge the legendary Dynamix all time record.
Elite - three time Premiership winners
Dynamix had to settle for the runners up spot for the second season in a row. The team have been amazingly successful since joining the league, so they will no doubt be disappointed with allowing Elite to walk away with the title this season. We are sure it will only make them more determined next season! A highlight of the season was the form of star players Rachel Bannister and Lesley Athorn-Mico who finished the season with six and four player of the match nominations respectively. A mention also has to go to Wadsley Jack who entered the season late and inherited a poor record from a withdrawing team, as they have set a real marker for next season. They stormed to third and showed they will be real title contenders in the new season.
Dynamix - Premiership Runners Up
The player of the season award went to MBC team captain Gail Haddock who ended the season with a superb nine nominations. It was the joint third highest tally of all time and makes her a well deserved winner.
