Match Night news:

Irwin Mitchellettes Win The Sheffield Netball League One Title – Summer 2010

22 Dec 2010

Wednesday 3rd November saw Irwin Mitchellettes crowned Sheffield Netball League One champions and gain promotion to the Championship. The runners up and second promotion spot went to Netbelles.

Irwin Mitchellettes, led by captain Stacie Hurt, put last season’s disappointment of relegation behind them, as they stormed to the League One title by nine clear points, putting them back into the Championship at the first time of asking.  The team completed a near perfect season, only losing once to Netbelles in the second week of the season.  An incredible twelve match winning run followed, which saw them crowned well deserved champions.  The team executed some scintillating and dominant performances, which saw them fire in 490 goals - a new division record.  This team are now looking like the real deal and will head back to the Championship as a real force.

Netbelles, led by captain Ali Adams, completed a great season to finish nine points clear in second place.  They also return to the Championship at the first attempt, after relegation last season.  They have become a bit of a yo-yo team and have either been promoted or relegated four times in the last five seasons.  I guess this means being a Netbelles player is never dull, but they will no doubt hope to retain their Championship status next season!  Northstars, Eckington Red Wings and Wake Smith Wonders all had good seasons and all three will hope they can break into the top two spots next season.

The player of the season award went to Sheffield YOS star player Tanya Wills, with a record of seven nominations.
