Mavericks Win The Sheffield Netball League One Title – Winter 2010/11
17 Jun 2011
Wednesday 13th April saw Mavericks crowned The Sheffield Netball League One champions and gain promotion to the Championship. The runners up spot and final promotion place went to Wake Smith Wonders.
Mavericks, led by captain Kim Pick, completed a near perfect season as they stormed to the League One title and into the Championship by nine clear points. The team only lost one game all season and put last season’s disappointment of relegation behind them, as they bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt. The Mavericks have yo-yoed between the divisions and their previous three seasons in the Championship have all ended in relegation. However, after such an impressive season the team are arguably playing their best netball to date and will feel they are well equipped to make a big impact in the Championship this time round.
Mavericks - League One Winners
Wake Smith Wonders, led by captain marvel Kaye Knott, completed a stunning season to clinch the runners up spot and promotion to the Championship. The team have spent all their previous six seasons in the League One division and have never troubled the promotion places before. It was therefore fantastic to see them clinch promotion in some style, finishing eight points clear of Eckington Red Wings in third. It may have been a bit unexpected, but the team played some sensational netball this season and will look to continue this good form next season in the Championship.
